OutFront Kalamazoo’s Solidarity Statement Regarding the Latest Executive Orders

OutFront Kalamazoo condemns the harmful and discriminatory rhetoric perpetuated by the ongoing wave of Executive Orders.

We are proof that LGBTQIA+ and specifically transgender people have always, and will always, exist regardless of what any presidential administration says or does.

We maintain that gender affirming care is healthcare, and that healthcare is a human right.

We stand with our undocumented and immigrant siblings and condemn threats of mass deportation. We recognize the irreparable harm done to individuals and families through inhumane and unjust immigration practices.

We stand with Palestine and condemn the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people. We feel with those in our community of Kalamazoo and Southwest Michigan who are directly impacted by these devastating losses. We denounce all past, current, and future U.S. contributions to the escalation of this humanitarian crisis.

We recognize protest as a constitutional right protected under the First Amendment and support all protesters acting in the pursuit of a more just, inclusive, equitable, and supportive society.

We affirm that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives are vital to the personal and professional well-being of marginalized people.

As this presidential administration continues to test its boundaries, we as an LGBTQIA+ organization will continue to stand in solidarity with Black, Indigenous, People of Color, undocumented individuals, disabled people, religiously persecuted groups, and all other marginalized and disenfranchised communities. We recognize the unprecedented quantity and magnitude of these Executive Orders as a strategic attempt to frighten, confuse, and exhaust our communities. We refuse to let fear tactics distract or splinter us. Now and always, we maintain: We are strongest together.

Signed,

The OutFront Kalamazoo Team
