Queer Diplomacies in the Americas: Bringing Intimacy to the Forefront! Public Talk and Community Conversation with Dr. Eduardo Tadeo
Dr. Eduardo Tadeo is a Professor-Researcher in the Department of Politics and Culture at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-Xochimilco (Mexico City) visiting Kalamazoo through WMU's Visiting Scholars and Artists Program. He is a scholar of public diplomacy, with research and community work focused on the experiences and voices of Latin American and Latinx queer communities.
This talk and community conversation will explore the intimate politics of care, representation, and advocacy in the Americas through the experiences of Latin American and Latinx queer communities. It will build on the recognition of a longstanding history of LGBTQ+phobia in the countries of the region, but also on the acknowledgment that queer communities have developed powerful collective strategies for survival and resistance—connecting cultural collectives and providing forms of support that the state has failed to deliver. This talk and conversation will encourage the audience to reflect on and celebrate global connections and transnational solidarity for queer communities.
The event is a partnership between WMU, OutFront Kalamazoo, El Concilio Kalamazoo, and Queer Theatre Kalamzoo.
This free event will take place on Wednesday, March 18 at 6:00 p.m. at Crawlspace Comedy Theatre. Reserve your seat now at: https://outfrontkzoo.ludus.com/index.php
