OutFront Kalamazoo’s Statement on the Annunciation Catholic School Shooting

OutFront Kalamazoo stands in solidarity with the families and communities impacted by the tragedy that took place at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, MN, on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

All children deserve to feel safe in school. The United States holds one of the highest rates of gun violence in the world, with schools and workplaces being the two most common settings for mass shootings. We stand in support of gun control policies that keep our communities, and especially our children, safe. 

As news outlets have begun sharing information with the public about this tragedy, some have used the shooter’s transgender identity as an opportunity to spread harmful rhetoric about the transgender community. 

Anti-trans rhetoric will not reduce gun violence and will not protect our children. We condemn all rhetoric that scapegoats trans people to avoid gun reform.
