Our Statement Regarding Conversion Therapy in Michigan

OutFront Kalamazoo is deeply disappointed by the Michigan Supreme Court’s decision to halt enforcement of the state’s ban on conversion therapy.

Conversion therapy is a discredited and harmful practice linked to increased rates of depression, anxiety, and suicide attempts among LGBTQIA+ youth. Every major medical and mental health association opposes it for these reasons.

With no enforced conversion therapy ban, our young people are now at greater risk of exploitation and trauma. Even families seeking safe, affirming care are now vulnerable to coercive and unregulated interventions.

OutFront Kalamazoo stands with survivors and families and will continue to fight for affirming, trauma-informed mental health services in our community. LGBTQIA+ youth deserve dignity, safety, and the freedom to be themselves.

If you or someone you know has been impacted by this change or needs help finding affirming mental health care, we can help. Call or visit our office for support.
